Go GoAir!

Last month, I got a forward from a good friend about cheap tickets between Hyderabad and Chennai being offered by this new airline called GoAir, and I checked it out.

Tickets b/w Hyderabad and Chennai at 1200 including taxes, seemed to be too good to be true. On the way to Hyderabad I was stuck at the Delhi airport for over 10 hours, in what is now a famous blog. I finally found myself sitting in front of the gates, and I soon began to develop an intense hatred for low cost airlines. They would go on only as long as the going was good, once it was not, the passengers would have to fend for themselves.

I mean, I would not mind low cost food or low cost soap, because that can't kill me. But Airlines, it just might.

So I cautiously report at the airport an hour before the scheduled time, and I go to the counter, expecting a problem. They tell me that my ticket is ready, and hand it to me. Then I go to the counter for check in, and I get my boarding card is on time.

Finally I move on to the waiting room, expecting a large delay. Nope, the announcement is on time, and the passengers board the flight without any delay. So far, Im impressed.

What strikes me the most, inside the flight, is the attitude of the three airhostesses. Firstly, theyre in short skirts (A must for low cost airlines these days). Secondly, they seem to have this nice sense of ownership over the aircraft, and they actually walk around trying to make people comfortable when it is not really necessary to do so. It seemed like a (hot) housewife trying to make guests more comfortable. Nice!

The flight is not shoddy, the ambience is good (although the excess of pink is a little annoying) and the customers are by and large happy. The pilot was foreign, both by origin and by mindset. He came by very often into the cabin to kiss his wife passionately for a few minutes. Me thinks this was a form of inflight entertainment.

It reaches on time, and without any hassles, Im on my way. I think with GoAir, low cost airlines have reached a stage of maturity, where they can compete on any parameter with the other airlines. I think Air Deccan can learn a thing or two from these guys.

Maybe Im speaking too soon, but Im happy, and Im sure as hell going to go GoAir next time as well!
